Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it is an island to the west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this is not true. Brugel developed on Courtice just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As I grew older than my male friends, I quit. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the instance of Brugel,, it was an urging from her teacher of drama. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the annual school production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on small and big screens, attracting the greatest interest when she was offered the role in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the character the character of Rita on The Handmaid's tale which was produced over the course of ten years.
